Sometimes referred to as the UCF Area, East Orlando is home to the University of Central Florida. If taking in a college football game and spending your time with UCF alumni (young and old alike) sounds like a good day to you, this area is both affordable and conveniently located. East Orlando is slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the more tourist-driven areas of Orlando, and a little more relaxed because of it. If having access to all of the finer things of the downtown area while still maintaining a sense of peace and calm are important to you, East Orlando may have exactly what you’re looking for.
East Orlando offers a wide range of housing options, with many safe and quaint little neighborhoods that are just close enough to the action to keep you busy, but far enough away that you can stay out of the constant stream of activity when you need to. The business and commercial districts are close at hand, so getting to and from work is usually a breeze. Many of the residents of this area report a drive time that’s less than 30 minutes (compared to the 45 min- 1 hour long drive) of residents living outside of Orlando. The Orlando Airport is also close at hand, making it a convenient place to live if you are a frequent traveler.
As may be expected when you are located so close to a major university, the local bars and clubs are filled with college students. However, a number of fine dining establishments, shopping centers, parks, and smaller pubs are available and tend to attract a slightly older, more affluent crowd. For the outdoorsy types, there are plenty of neighborhoods with lakes, local parks, biking trails, and other ways to spend your day enjoying the warm weather.
If you appreciate the idea of being close to the culture and fanfare of downtown, but feel like your family needs a quieter, less hectic place to call home, East Orlando is definitely worth a look. There are plenty of gated communities that offer security and a variety of their own shopping, restaurants, and amenities. You can take the family out for a day at the museum (many allow children in for free) and then return to the quaint and tree-lined tranquility of your own East Orlando neighborhood.
One of the great things about the East Orlando area is that, if you ever tire of living there and feel like a move, you can always sublease your home to the many college students in the area looking for affordable housing close to campus. East Orlando has long been a favorite spot for investors for this very reason. If East Orlando sounds inviting to you, please see our property listings for neighborhoods in the area.
